New York music scene offers to the audience a fertile soundscape that encompasses a wide range of genres for everyone, especially as regards hip-hop,r&b,soul and jazz music. Today scratchtheblock.com is pleased to invite y’all to experience the sound of Freeport native Still Weavens. Weavens is a producer/musician/composer who kicked off his career in 2011 with a series of instrumentals and remixes (check out his Bandcamp catalog). Imagine Still Weavens music as a kind of sound that meanders between hip-hop influenced by the mogul J.Dilla, punchy funk rhythms as great fan of Roger Troutman, soul and r&b inspired by Marvin Gaye and Emily King and even rock. All these ingredients ,apparently in stark contrast, are wisely merged together to create Still Weavens distinctive and eclectic sound. Recently Still Weavens released his official full length album entitled Amisana distributed by Mark Wallowy german label Tokyo Dawn (home of Pugs Atomz,Reggie B,Opolopo,Positive Flow among others). The project boasts apparences from Quelle Chris,Guilty Simpson and Donwill (member of hip-hop group Tanya Morgan). The most impressive track from the project is Butterfly. It’s a brilliant collabo alongside the multi-talented artist Erik Rico (who worked with Ladybug Mecca of Digable Planets,Grooveman Spot,Coultrain,Opolopo and DJ Spinna to name a few). Mr. Rico contributes to elevate the joint with exquisite vocals which perfectly match with the astute and soulful backdrop hanging in the balance between neo-soul and r&b.
Erik Rico is an artist that i admire, working with him is a treat.
Butterfly holds a special place in my heart and I knew that Erik was the only person I trusted with carrying out the emotional aspect of the track.
