NAS – ONE LOVE (MAX-I-MILLION REMIX, CUTS BY DJ DEVESTATE)
Swedish indipendent hip-hop label Counterweight Records recruits the superlative beatmaker Max-I-Million and renowned DJ/producer DJ Devastate to work on an ambitious project to pay tribute to the one and only street-poet Nasir Jones. 7 Days Of Nas is the clever result of the fruitful collabo between Mr.Million and DJ Dev and represents a structured concept project composed by 7 supa-fresh treatment remixes , one tune per day. 7 Days Of Nas is an original revisitation of a journey through the long career of the New York rapper, travelling through the 1994 with Illmatic productions by Large Pro and Q-Tip, the 1996 of the finest It Was Written,the 1999 with the dope works by beatsmith like DJ Premier for da project I Am…,the times of God’s Son and Street’s Disciple until the recent years. We have to express our absolute satisfaction and our respect for a project finely tuned,balanced,well executed where the intelligent use of boombap,head-nodding and soulful beats finds the perfect chemistry with the outstanding scratches and cuts by DJ Devastate. HEATHER B – TAKIN’ MINE (BEN HEDIBI REMIX)
On da hip-hop selection Damn Pink Mics we celebrated the “pink side” of the hip-hop scene, selecting stunning masterpieces performed by talented female rappers,among which Heather Gardner aka Heather B with her powerful All Glocks Down. Tunisian DJ/producer Ben Hedibi Hassan hit us with his penchant for 90’s hip-hop , unveiling a musical approach influenced by legends like J.Dilla,RZA,DJ Premier and Pete Rock’s brother Grap Luva. Ben Hedibi dag in the crates , resuming Heather B’s debut album and remixing the joint titled Takin’ Mine produced by Kenny Parker. Mad props to Ben Hedibi for the solid treatment remix cooked using the sample of Ghetto Heaven (by Common and Macy Gray produced by Soulquarians’s affiliate Questlove and James Poyser ) and taking advantage of the Confidence ‘s Drums Kit.
FLOETRY – SAY YES (AHMED SIROUR REMIX)
Brooklyn artist Ahmed Sirour is not only a gifted keyboardist,pianist,composer, writer, arranger, producer but….for us he’s part of scratchtheblock.com family, so no wonder if we selected Ahmed on several finest selections like the jazz Songs In A Mellow Mood and Marvin Gaye Re-Works . Recently Ahmed dropped a gift for his fans,remixing the best song performed by U.K neo-soul duo Floetry and included on their certified gold debut album Floetic. We are talking about the smooth Dre & Vidal production titled Say Yes. As usual Ahmed Sirour is able to touch the strings of your soul ,revamping the track and adding his remarkable and eargasmic touch with an original revisitation. Marsha Ambrosius and Natalie Stewart is currently planning a reunion tour.
DONNY HATHAWAY – LITTLE GHETTO BOY (HERR STYLER REMIX)
Herr Styler! A german moniker for an italian duo based in France. Their eclectic,eerie electronic style caught the attention of the giant of the music industry Atlanta Records that offered them the opportunity to remix a classic record by Donny Hathaway , Little Ghetto Boy. The final result is a simply amazing and classy supa-soulful treatment remix that will satisfy the refined palate of our cool listeners.
BOYZ II MEN FEAT. ERICK SERMON,KEITH MURRAY,REDMAN – VIBIN (KENNY SMOOVE REMIX)
In the 90’s the R&B scene was shaked by the music of Boyz II Men. Shawn Stockman & co. released in 1994 the studio album titled II,that obtained a positive outcome thanks also the impressive line up of artists involved in the project: Brian McKnight,Dallas Austin,Tim & Bob,Babyface among others. One of the most impressive joint is Vibin (we selected the remix version on the 6th volume of The Remix Session) and today we recommend the incredible remix handled by Nashville super producer Kenny Smoove (Mary J Blige,Johnny Gill ,Changing Faces,Trisha Covington, Case,AZ) with the dynamic bars of Def Squad affiliates Keith Murray,Erick Sermon and Redman.
BAHAMADIA – UKNOWHOWWEDU (ADAM KAY REMIX)
We continue to support the young and talented danish beatmaker Adam Ketelsen aka Adam Kay who knows how to pierce your mind with his skilful touch ,despite his young age. He appeared on the 7th installment of The Remix Session with a catchy revisitation of the r&b classic I Wanna Be Down by Brandy. We also showcased the remix version of Hit Me Off by New Edition. To confirm his great prowess as gifted remixer, Adam Kay shows his personal version of a hip-hop classic by street-queen Bahamadia titled Uknowhowwedu included on the collection of remixes titled The Remixes Vol.1
AMY WINEHOUSE – STRONGER THAN ME (LOBO BOOTLEG REMIX)
In 2003 the beloved neo-soul U.K songstress Amy Winehouse, launched her single written and produced by hip-hop/r&b luminary Salaam Remi titled Stronger Than Me, included on Amy debut certified platinum and gold album Frank. London young self-taught hip-hop and grime producer, Lobo resumes Amy Winehouse success and provides to revamp it with his electro fresh touch! What’s your impression about it?
ALGEBRA BLESSETT – NOBODY BUT YOU (CHRIS READ ALL NIGHT REMIX)
R&B/Neo-Soul singer/songwriter Algebra Felicia Blessett released in 2014 her sophomore album titled Recovery flexing her superb and heavenly voice and counting on the support of heavy-weight producers such as Kwamè (Dru Hill,Blu Cantrell,JoJo,Tweet,Pussycat Dolls,Will Smith,Fantasia) and B.Cox. She represents a respected artist working with several big names of the black music scene: India Arie,Esperanza Spalding,Eric Roberson,the hip-hop violinist Miri Ben-Ari,Raheem DeVaughn,Anthony David among others. For the occasion we selected the wonderful remix version of Nobody But You masterfully handled by renowned DJ Chris Read , an esteemed artist at international level.
AALIYAH – ROCK THE BOAT (COOKIN SOUL REMIX)
Spanish hip-hop masterminds Cookin Soul offered to the numerous fans of r&b beloved singer Aaliyah a supa-hot revisitation of a success from her third self-titled album. The track is Rock The Boat penned by the beloved Static Major and produced by Keybeats an amazing team of music/song writers and producers consisting of Eric Seats and Rapture Stewart. Probably the best remix cooked by Cookin Soul.
A TRIBE CALLED QUEST – 1NCE AGAIN (GUY’S REMIX)
London beatmaker Guy Mallett closes the selection with an ear-catchy and mellow re-work of 1nce Again by A Tribe Called Quest and co-produced by J.Dilla.
