GIMENEZ E – BACK (N’STILL NOT READY FOR DIS)
We wanna kick off the selection with a sought-after track performed by french singer Gimenez E. Influenced by soul icons such as Sly Stone and Stevie Wonder and modern artists like D’Angelo , Gimenez E represents french music scene but his refined sound reflects a penchant and interest for the overseas early 1990s music culture, unveiling a particular taste for neo-soul music. In 2007 the bonafide artist released the great Bastard Melodies from which we selected the masterpiece titled Back (N’Still Not Ready For Dis). Definitely a perfect example of nu-soul gem, perfect in terms of arrangement and production! The sumptuous bond of jazz instrumentation like the trumpet (played by himself) and the collaboration with Francis Arnaud on drums, Jean-Barnard Ridet and Philippe “Pompon” Scemana on guitars give us a cohesive soulful overview that exudes infinite class. We also have to underline Gimenez E’s air-tight vocal prowess……..and the comparison with the king of neo-soul music D, is more than appropriate!
