We’re great fans of jazz music , in particular we love to explore experimental approaches, you know jazz meets neo-soul,jazz meets hip-hop!
One of the most impressive, precious, inspiring album safely filed away in our collection is The RH Factor magnum opus called Hard Groove.
Yes, the two-times grammy award winner jazz trumpeter Roy Anthony Hargrove has been a staple in the internation jazz music scene but he often left the boundaries of jazz to create something cool and different and for sure Hard Groove represents a milestone!
Hard Groove lineup is a who’s-who of influential figures such as Erykah Badu,Maurice Brown,Marc Cary,Common,D’Angelo,Anthony Hamilton,Stefanie McKay,Meshell Ndegeocello,Renee Neufville,James Poyser,Pino Palladino and the list goes on and on.
We dag in the crate to blow the dust off an incredibile rare version of remixes distributed via jazz label Verve Records entitled Roy Hargrove Presents The RH Factor – Remixes which includes an album version of Poetry and Forget Regreat and two remixes of both pieces.
We selected the beyond amazing treatment remix for Poetry featuring Erykah Badu and Q-Tip flawlessly handled by legendary Brooklyn DJ, producer, remixer DJ Spinna
Let’s get the ball rolling with a smooth treatment remix.
California based DJ/producer/turntablist Jared Jackson sizes up a r&b classic by the beloved Aaliyah to recalibrate her grammy nominated hit Rock The Boat penned by the wordsmith Static Major and co-produced by Eric Seats (the man behind big names such as Lalah Hathaway , Destiny’s Child, Kelly Price) .
Damn, Mr. Jackson turns the beat down and creates a wonderful mellow new flavour.
Oh man dont’ sleep on Arkiv superb revisitation of MED hip-hop stunning piece Burgundy Whip featuring losangeleno rapper Blu and singer Jimetta Rose.
Obviously the original version masterfully produced by the God Madlib is unbeatable but we must recognise that Arkiv version sounds pretty pretty good!
What’s your impression?
We discovered the amazing voice of Andreya Triana through her sublime collaborations along side Brighton electronic producer Bonobo.
Berlin based producer Max Graef delivered a sophisticated treatment remix that sends tingles up and down your spine with groovy and attractive downtempo sonorities .
Yap, we have to admit!
We love, love, love the talent of Katrah-Quey..and pay attention…it’s not about technicalities or how perfect is his style in academic terms!
We have the utmost respect for this dude simply because he’s always able to induce emotions with his craft.
So sit back and relax yourself because the New Orleans beat-magician gives to you another taste of his talent as remixer with a supa-smooth rework of a hip-hop piece from 2005.
Katrah-Quey resumes the joint Up And Down performed by North Carolina Cesar Comanche (former member of hip-hop collective Justus League). The original version wrapped by hip-hop legend 9th Wonder sampling a Bobbi Humphrey record is included on Cesar Comanche Squirrel and the Aces.
Well, without wishing in any way to detract from what 9th Wonder did for Up And Down , we want to express our thumb up for the compelling version dropped by Katrah-Quey. Now do yourself a favor and dive into Katrah Bandcamp catalog
Dutch DJ/producer Melvin Tellier better known by the moniker Mella Mayne appears for the first time at scratchtheblock.com with a delightful offering!
As you know neo-soul queen Erykah Badu has represented an incredibile source of inspiration for producers/beatmaker.
In view of that , we highly recommend to pour a glass of red wine to taste the re-arrangement crafted by Mella Mayne for On & On.
London producer Ohaji Kamara popped up under our radar through his affiliation with U.K producer and founder of Futuristica Music Simon Skolfield.
The partnership between them began in 1996 when they started to produce under the stage name Aztek Production and today we recommend a well-appointed treatment remix handled by Mr. Kamara.
In 2007 an unofficial release “branded” Break Reform appeared on vinyl format including three impressive remixes of Common Sense pieces.
One of those is crafted by Ohaji Kamara which had fun flipping DJ Premier-produced cut The 6th Sense.
After receiving the applause of renowned media such as Vibe, Solange Knowles’s Saintheron and 2DopeBoyz, the young and talented performer dropped via Soundcloud some interesting revisitations by Swarvy and Mndsgn among others.
Scratchtheblock.com crew resumes Adam Kay compilation to give you the opportunity to taste the remix version of the hip-hop milestone Just Another Day by Queen Latifah.
For the occasion Adam used the sample of Dre & Vidal-produced hit , Girl Next Door performed by Musiq Soulchild.
Let’s jump into the powerful G-Funk!!
In 1994 the streets of Compton got the appeal to underground rapper Geoffrey Curtis aka Str8-G which dropped his first and unfortunately unique album called Shadow Of A G.
The centerpiece of the entire opus is probably the cut Bring The Funk produced by Juice Crew member, Tragedy Khadafi.
Now get your chevy , pump up the volume and make some beautiful noise with the supreme remix cooked by one of the g-funk piooners , DJ Quik.
Definitely a classic hip-hop piece!
