Kool Sphere and M.C. Reppond are Verbal Threat. With the main aim to spread and promote a kind of hip-hop deeply rooted in what we used to know as “golden era” ( De La Soul,Pete Rock,Gang Starr,A Tribe Called Quest..), Verbal Threat earned their stripes with the powerful single titled Reality Check, produced by the gotha of hip-hop production DJ Premier. Today we spin a holy shit titled Dirty Money remixed by Primo.

QUE-D FEAT. FRANK NITT – CASH FLOW (PRODUCED BY J.DILLA)

We blow the dust off a interesting hip-hop record by Que-D  titled Quite Delicious released in 2000. On da selection Fat Beats we recommended the dope track Rock Box and today we selected the head-nodding Cash Flow with the collaboration of Frank Nitt on da mic and Jay Dee on da beat.

We ain’t no doubt,hip-hop underground lovers got on their record collection the milestone Center Of Attention dropped in 2003 by InI. The group composed by Pete Rock’s brother Grap Luva,Marco Polo (Polo Dada aka Jolomite),Rob-O and I Love H.I.M delivered so many superlative tracks included also on Pete Rock’s must have compilation Lost & Found: Hip Hop Underground Soul Classics. Allow us to serve you up the fan-tas-tic Step Up produced by Grap Luva taking advantage with the sample of 1974 record by Thunder and Lightning (if ya prick up your ears maybe you can recognize the same sample used also by 2Pac for his I Get Around and Gang Starr for Step In The Arena).

MOKA ONLY – ITS BEST

We really appreciate the talent of canadian producer/emcee Moka Only. During his career , he collaborated with renowned artists like MF Doom,J.Dilla and other interesting names of the hip-hop soundscape like Chief,Potatohead People,Jazz Spastiks. We wanna spotlight something hot from his project Sex Money Moka released this year and acclaimed by respected music sites like BamaLoveSoul and TheFindMag. This is da sound of Its Best.

JUJU ROGERS – HUNGRY (PRODUCED BY BLUESTAEB)

On May we showcased the brilliant hip-hop underground album Back To The Boom by the skilful trio Man Of Boom. We met them on jazz-hop selection Bust That Groove and now we focus on the talent of JuJu Rogers 1/3 of Man Of Boom. The Berlin emcee/musician got an impressive and indisputable class on da mic as you can realize listening to his revisitation of Life’s a B***. In order to give ya anotha proof of his musicianship, please pay attention and taste the flow of Hungry. The boombap joint is produced by young Berlin-based producer Bluestaeb and included on Summer In Jakarta a compilation released this year by Jakarta Records

JACK MUSHROOM FEAT. SKOOLIE 300 – IKONS

Time to introduce some rookies on scratchtheblock.com… We said rookies but you can bet they will pierce your mind with very hot rhymes. We are talking about young rapper Jack Mushroom  and Skoolie 300 that let loose some bars over the supa-beats of Ikons. The instrumental is the same used by Mac Miller for his Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza with the sample of Lord Finesse’s Hip 2 Da Game.

HAWK HOUSE – CHILL PILL (EXPERIMENT 2) (PRODUCED BY JAKE MILLINER)

Hawk House represents one of the most interesting hip-hop underground group of the moment. With acclaimed debut project  A Little More Elbow Room they paved the way for their success and this year with the release of the sophomore album A Handshake To The Brain,they confirmed the quality of a music made of   true-to-form boom bap rhythms, jazzy melodies and soulful vibes.We spreaded Hawk House music on Road To Hip-Hop and On Deck. For this selection we chose Chill Pill (Experiment 2) produced by London mastermind Jake Milliner who appeared on our last hip-hop underground selection titled Microphone Masters

Thanks their unblemished approach to hip-hop music, Detroit extra-cool collective Clear Soul Forces appeared on several selections satisfying the palates of jazz-hop tasters on Jazz-Hop Hooray and Hustle Bustle and old-school lovers on  Road To Hip-Hop ,This Is It,Ya’ll and Microphone Masters. E-Fav, L.A.Z ,Noveliss and Ilajide make your speakers on blast with Unlimited Bounce from their must have project Gold PP7s

CHROMADADATA FEAT. JUSTIN ZIM – ALL I WANT

Kansas City musician/beatmaker Ian Jones aka ChromadaDada got us hooked with a style that contemplates jazz,funk,soul as well as hip-hop with a background influenced by eminent artists like J.Dilla,Pete Rock,Madlib,Onra,Flying Lotus. We introduce ChromadaData’s music with the excellent dilla-esque hip-hop tune titled All I Want alongside New York guitarist/musician/composer Justin Zim. The track sounds like a classic!!

SLUM VILLAGE – KEEP IT ON (PRODUCED BY J.DILLA)

Last but not least a masterpiece by one of our fav hip-hop group!! Straight from Detroit , here you are the evergreen music performed by Slum Village. This time we dug on da crate to blow the dust off their record titled Fan-tas-tic Vol.1…Slum’s delight your ears with Keep It On produced by the mogul J.Dilla.
