SWINDLE FEAT. ASH RISER – LONDON TO LA
The better way to kick off this new sonic journey is to experience the sound of U.K producer/musician Swindle. Influenced by artists such as Stevie Wonder,jazz icon Miles Davis and guitarist George Benson , the brilliant artist is almost ready to deliver his last effort titled Peace,Love & Music . Swindle excited us with a leak titled London To L.A featuring los angeleno artist Ash Riser (who worked with Kendrick Lamar). The tune is a supa-refined trip through elegant jazz sonorities and groovy vibes.
LEDISI – SUGAR/BROWN SUGAR
With a huge talent as songwriter (she penned great gems for Robert Glasper,Maysa,Trombone Shorty,Frank McComb) and as singer Ledisi Anibade Young, represents a rare artist with qualities and skills that make her so much respected by an international audience who use to listen to different genres: neo-soul,r&b and even jazz. Today we blew the dust off her sophomore album titled Feeling Orange But Sometimes Blue. On this record , Ledisi shines with her entrancing rendition of some jazz standards like Round Midnight and In A Sentimental Mood. We selected the sparkling re-arrangement of D’Angelo’s Brown Sugar mixed with a 1971 record titled Sugar by jazz tenor saxophonist Stanley “The Sugar Man” Turrentine.
JUDITH HILL – MY PEOPLE
Half-Japanese, Half-African American singer-songwriter Judith Hill got a a heavy gospel background but during her experience she sharpened her music incorporating elements of jazz,funk,soul and even rock creating her own style. Judith’s debut album titled Back In Time was entirely produced by eminent artist Prince. In 2012 Ms.Hill was recrutied to record songs from the soundtrack of Red Hook Summer directed by Spike Lee. We serve you up the joint titled My People. Prick up your ears and pay respect to this bona-fide performer.

If you are into acid jazz music and you really love groups such as The Brand New Heavies,Jazzanova,Liquid Spirit,Incognito,US3,Urban Species then you will appreciate the avant-garde music performed by Jazzhole. The New York based group consists of superlative multi-talented artist Marlon Saunders (he worked with Barry White,Angela Johnson,Maysa),producer/composer/musician Warren Rosenstein and guitarist/composer John Pondel. We chose a brilliant gem from the album titled Circle Of The Sun released in 2002: Love Philosophy. A seductive crossbreed of genres, from sophisticated neo-soul to nu-jazz, flecked with down-tempo and late-night sounds that make you feel good. Last year Jazzhole dropped their seventh album Blue 72
JASPECTS FEAT. PJ MORTON – LIQUID SOUNDS
Jaspects is a collective composed by T. Brown , Jon-Christopher Sowells , drummer Henry “HC3” Conerway, III , Dwayne “Spacey” Dugger , Stagolee and King James. Their music is a balanced mix of r&b,hip-hop and jazz wisely intertwined as you can realize listening to The Polkadotted Stripe dropped in 2009. The project boasts appearances from Janelle Monae,Chicago native soulstress Chantae Cann and PJ Morton. Press play and enjoy the jazzy and groovy sound of Liquid Sounds featuring PJ Morton.
INCOGNITO FEAT. DEBORAH BOND – I SEE THE SUN
At scratchtheblock.com we consider Bluey Maunick and his legendary band Incognito as part of the family! Their music can be described like an exciting kaleidoscopic voyage through hushed modern soul rhythm,bubbly and elegant funk and keen jazz production. We selected something from their last effort Amplified Soul for the jazz selection North Of The Sunset and we also selected something hot for the selections Da Jazz Hunters and the acclaimed Songs In A Mellow Mood . Bluey appeared on the 10th installment of Stay Mellow. Now sit back and relax because we’re ready to show ya the superlative acid jazz tune titled I See The Sun from Amplified Soul. It’s a finest collaborative joint with the flawless neo-soul singer Deborah Bond. The Washington singer recently collaborated with rapper Substantial and producer Algorythm to record the amazing piece Cool Mornings.
GRUPO X FEAT. LISA MILLETT – BRAND NEW LOVE
U.K ensemble Grupo X blow our mind with their experimental sound where ’60s and ‘70s latin music meets jazz sonorities.We resume their debut work titled X-Posure dropped in 2001 , so pay attention and listen to the masterpiece titled Brand New Love with house singer Lisa Millett on vocals. EMANATIVE FEAT. AHU – TURN THE LIGHTS ON
Producer and band leader Nick “Emanative” Woodmansey represents a perfect choice if you are looking for an highly competent artist able to break the boundaries of conventional music with his sumptuous hotchpotch of jazz and soul. In 2008 tastemaker Gilles Peterson included Turn The Lights On on the third installment of Brownswood Bubblers series. The brilliant piece appeared on Emanative album titled Time released in 2010. Turn The Lights On is a masterpiece realized with the collaboration of Turkish singer Ahu Kelesoglu. The talented singer worked alongside incredible artists such as Flying Lotus,74 Miles Away and Grooveman Spot and her craft is inspired by legends like Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Marlena Shaw and Billie Holiday.This year in March, Nick worked on the project The Light Years Of The Darkness .
BILAL FEAT. KIMBRA – HOLDING IT BACK (PRODUCED BY ADRIAN YOUNGE)

AKUA ALLRICH FEAT. NICHOLAS PAYTON – I CAN’T STAND THE RAIN
D.C. native jazz vocalist Akua Allrich will impress you with her superlative rendition of the soul standard titled I Can’t Stand The Rain recorded 1974 by soul icon Ann Peebles. Ms.Allrich teamed up with Louisiana multi-instrumentalist Nicholas Payton (he worked with great names such as Common,Dianne Reeves,Will Downing,Jill Scott,Brandon Williams,Lil John Roberts and Butcher Brown) to resume and re-arrange an epic tune in a jazz key. Hands down for this excellent cover recorded by two gifted artists.
