SCRATCHTHEBLOCK PRESENTS: STREET JAZZ (Jazz Hop Rarities)

Wassup scratchers, we present you the first jazz-hop selection of 2014: Street Jazz.

We start with a lil rare gem by Tribeca Sound! The project consist of producers/arrangers Christopher Jackson (that worked with Toni Braxton)and Douglas Coleman (that collaborated with Anthony Hamilton and Sunshine Anderson). In 1994 they dropped their promo 12 inch called Street Jazz. Food for your ears people!

In 1999 Kamaal Ibn John aka Q-Tip, dropped his first solo album,Amplified. The project is almost entirely produced by J Dilla, with the collaboration of EPDM member group ,DJ Scratch , that produced two tracks..We choose the single called NT featuring Busta Rhymes.

Ladies and gentleman we introduce you young german beatmaker known with the moniker of FloFilz. Last year he released his interesting revisitation in jazz key of many hip hop underground classics: Some More Remixes available via Bandcamp. We were intrigued by the masterful and really impressive remix version of Masta IC by Mic Geronimo, with the collaboration of anotha talented german producer Wun Two!

New York emcee,Percey Carey aka MF Grimm released in 2005 the album called Scars & Memories,recruiting some producers like MF Doom. We choose the tune named Do It For The Kids (do you hear the sample of Montara by Bobby Hutcherson?)

The next track is anotha jazz-hop superlative tune by producer/ emcee Kero One: Music Journey is included on his classic album Windmills Of The Soul.

New Orleans native rapper and producer Jay Electronica is the kind of artist that paved his success and reliability, spread his music only via web and thanks word of mouth…He collaborated with artist like Erykah Badu,Nas,Mr.Porter,J Dilla,Madlib and Just Blaze. Jay Electronica shooted us with his sendoff track to Guru featuring Michigan femcee Tone Trezure! If the name of Tone Trezure is unfamiliar, check out this spotlight about her.

We talked about dutch producer Moods on our jazz-hop selection called Beats,Rhymes and Jazz. Today we wanna give anotha proof of Moods massive skills with the jazzy remix version of Longevity by N.Y based rapper J-Live.

Time to newbie on scratchtheblock.com. L.A rapper Intuition teamed up with his longstanding musical partner, producer Equalibrum from Cali releasing a spectacular,really fucking impressive jazz-hop single called Ain’t The Blues. Intuition and Equalibrum made a track where beat and lyric are perfectly matched.

Here you are a savory recipe for you musical palate: take Ronny Jordan guitar and mash it up with Guru raw jazzy verses and the soulful vocal of Diane Catherine Sealy  from U.K…… The plate is ready:  No Time To Play. Yessir, anotha masterpiece by one of the most renowned jazz-hop pioneer!

The last track is by a new entry on our home! Chicago hip hop group All Natural,consisting of DJ Tone B. Nimble & MC Capital D.. We choose an unbelievable jazz-hop joint from their sophomore album called Second Nature : Renaissance. For this masterpiece All Natural collaborated with Lone Catalysts (a group formed by J-Rawls and J-Sands) and used piano sample of You’re my Everything by jazz composer,pianist Ahmad Jamal.

Il rapper losangelino Intuition si unisce al suo partner di lunga data,il  producer Equalibrum per la release di un singolo spettacolare,un must have imperdibile intitolato Ain’t The Blues. Intuition e Equalibrum sono riusciti a creare una track in cui beat e lyric combaciano alla perfezione.

Eccovi una ricetta gustosa e vivace per il vostro palato: prendete la chitarra di Ronny Jordan , i versi jazzy dell’intramontabile Guru e la soulful voice di Diane Catherine Sealy, unite il tutto ….. Il piatto e’ servito:  No Time To Play. Yessir, un’altro impareggiabile capolavoro del re del jazz hop ,Guru!

L’ultimo pezzo della selezione e’ una new entry:il gruppo di Chicago All Natural (composto da DJ Tone B. Nimble & MC Capital D).. Abbiamo selezionato per voi un’incredibile pezzo jazz hop estratto dal loro secondo album intitolato Second Nature : Renaissance. Per il pezzo in questione gli All Natural si sono uniti ai Lone CatalystsJ-Rawls e J-Sands) usando il piano sample di You’re my Everything del compositore,pianista Ahmad Jamal.
