We pay homage to the East school with a brand new hip-hop selection titled Shibuya. We selected what we consider the most impressive hip-hop producers/DJs from Japan in order to blow your mind!

 SLUM VILLAGE – LOOK OF LOVE (BUDAMONK REMIX)

One of the most prominent artist from da Jazzy Sport‘s roster ,Tomo Kanno better known as Budamonk puts your soul high with his treatment buttery remix of a hip-hop classic performed by Slum Village titled Look Of Love from their milestone Fan-Tas-Tic (Vol.1). Deeply influenced by producers like J.Dilla,Madlib,DJ Krush and Erick Sermon and equipped with an MPC2000xl and SP303, Budamonk represents a valid choice for everyone who really love 90s soulful,jazzy and mellow hip-hop beats . SAUKRATES – FARTHER TIME (GROOVEMAN SPOT REMIX)

On da acclaimed selection Jazz-Hop Chronicles we met Japanese producer Grooveman Spot and today we celebrate his great prowess with a compelling jazzy remix. Grooveman Spot blew the dust off a 1997 record by canadian rapper Saukrates titled Brick House EP, flipping his single Farther Time.  In 2010 Grooveman Spot released a superlative work titled Change Situations with a line up that includes Grap Luva,Kissey Asplund,John Robinson among others.

ONE BE LO – ROCKETSHIP (MAD SMOKY REMIX)

Osaka based DJ/beatmaker Mad Smoky is a supa-cool and interesting artist with a strong penchant for jazz-hop vibes! Do ya wanna a proof? Well, take your headphones and taste the remix version of Rocketship performed by Michigan rapper One Be Lo.

MABANUA FEAT. KEV BROWN – HOLDIN’ IT DOWN

Musician and gifted producer Mabanua dropped in 2008 his masterpiece titled Done Already recruiting some great artists like Eshe of Arrested Development,Akil of Jurassic 5,Nicholas Ryan Gant.  Mabanua’s music is flecked with soulful sounds,jazzy vibrations and refined urban beats as you can realize with the magic Holdin’ It Down with the support of producer/emcee Kev Brown on da mic. “Maba” appeared on Class In Session Vol.3,Da Orchestra,A Touch Of Jazzy

KENICHIRO NISHIHARA FEAT. SUBSTANTIAL – POWER OF SELF

Japenese composer,arranger and producer Kenichiro Nishihara will mesmerize you with his brilliant capability to perform a wide range of genres crossing jazz and hip-hop. Every opus handled by Mr. Nishihara is a perfect example of class like his debut album Humming Jazz . We selected something superlative from his sophomore project titled Life . K.SPARKS – THE RETURN (PRODUCED BY BUGSEED)

Tokyo based skilful producer Bugseed hits our soul with his “shots” of hip-hop jazzy beats. It’s time to get familiar with the talented artist,listening to his production for the hip-hop joint titled The Return performed by Queens rapper K.Sparks.

Back in 2003 , to appreciate the talent of one of our fav hip-hop producer: DJ Mitsu The Beats. In 2003 Mitsu released the album New Awakening , fr0m which we selected the hot joint titled Feelin Altright performed by underground hip-hop dynamic duo Little Brother. DJ KRUSH FEAT. N’DEA DAVENPORT – WITH GRACE

Surely one of the most influential hip-hop producer of da japanese music scene, DJ Krush and his distinctive and remarkable music that contemplates elements of hip-hop and trip-hop represents  a solid choice for everyone who love boom-bap and sought after rhythms! We selected DJ Krush ‘s music for several selections : This Is It,Ya’ll,Me and My Adidas,Jazz-Hop and Cadillac and now we deliver a sterling track titled With Grace featuring the sultry voice of N’Dea Davenport ,from Krush’s sixth album titled Zen that includes great collaborations like: Questlove,Black Thought,Zap Mama.

CRO-MAGNON FEAT. STEVE SPACEK – TIME FLIES

Cro-Magnon is an interesting outfit from Japan, composed by Higekazu Otake (drums and percussion), Tsuyoshi Kosuga (guitar and bass) and Takumi Kaneko (keyboards) . The thoughtful blend of funk,jazz and hip-hop beats enraptures the audience and we want to highlight their finest music showcasing something soulful from their third album titled III released in 2008 under Jazzy Sport label. Enjoy yourself with the masterpiece titled Time Flies featuring avant-garde singer Steve Spacek.
