Hey beautiful music lovers, we selected for y’all a new selection deep-rooted in neo-soul warm sonorites called Rhythm Child packed with amazing producers and singers that will make your skin shudder.
Are you curious? Well, sit back and take your time to discover interesting good music.
Recently we discovered an interesting performer that goes by the name of Ella Mae. The U.K. singer impressed us with an unstoppable vocal talent unveiling a penchant for neo-soul music through the compelling jam called Normalitea alongside canadian producer Mike Shabb . Three months ago Ella Mae released Neptune Lagoon , a superlative opus that showed us an artist that posses a captivating style worth listening over and over. The mini project is a fruitful collaboration with London beat-wizard 2 Late, a gifted producer whose musical approach combines soulful hip-hop elements a la J.Dilla and Pete Rock and dark,trip-hop nuances influenced by DJ Krush. We selected the sultry Moonshine….and…wow it’s like listening to Soulquarians music!
On da 6th installment of Class In Session we selected an elegant soulful piece entitled If You Don’t Love Me, an excellent collaboration between hip-hop soulful prophet Phonte Coleman and experimental dutch producers Liquid Spirits. The track is included on Liquid Spirits sophomore album entitled Music officially released in 2009. We can describe Liquid Spirits music as an extemely elegant, refined and modern way to conceive soul music. Music represents one of our favorite album,so allow us to recommend another astute and soulful piece called Higher Ground, performed by dutch singer Brian Zalmijn, able to seduce your soul with his mellow vocal tones.
From 1998 to 2000 New York singer Kim Hill collaborated with Black Eyed Peas as fourth member of the group.
Ms.Hill kicked off her solo career dropping Summertime In Aspen in 2002 a soulful jam, remixed also by legendary DJ Spinna.
Three years later she dropped a 12” called Right Now under California label Concrete Grooves from which we selected the exquisite song entitled Nutshell produced by Them Cats. Damn, her charming voice is sweet like honey!
One of the undisputed king of the jazz-hop music, Kero One or Kero Uno,recently dropped a brand new album entitled Reflection Eternal. The project flirts with several genres from hip-hop to r&b and pop. In our humble opinion his debut album Windmills Of The Soul represents Kero’s best opus but we always appreciate his signature jazzy and mellow production. Reflection Eternal boasts appearances from losangeleno hip-hop underground rapper Blu and r&b singer Jeff Bernat among others. Scratchtheblock.com chose the extra soulful nut entitled Falling Apart. It’s a smooth and jazzy collaboration with Salami Rose aka Lindsay Olsen (check out her collabo with Rob Finucane called Leave Me and Joomanji). Lindsay got a unique and vintage vocal style that takes you away to another time.
Washington DC young and brilliant songstress Zeroni is one of our recent discovery! Equipped with an incredible and unique vocal prowess, she hooks the listener, leaving him as kind of a fluctuating dream state, totally bewitched!
Recently we introduced her music, with the superlative Intertwine and today we recommend another great stuff entitled Run Goddess Run. Zeroni voice glides over a soulful and hypnotic production handled by dutch young and gifted hip-hop producer Thomas Vos aka Thovo Beats. (last year we spotlighted his dope production for Detroit rapper Priest called Questions)
If you love the music performed by Sade then you will appreciate the next track we chose for this selection!
New Jersey native singer/songwriter/producer Gaelle Adisson (pronounced guy-elle) offers us a soothing neo-soul piece called Parkway ,excerpt from the album entitled Transient.
Parkway is an emotional song and it really affects you with the sultry combination of Gaelle seductive laid back vocals and the steamy and hushed rhythm.
Welcome to the kaleidoscopic world of Alabama singer/songwriter Fayth Hope. Close your eyes and try to imagine the poetic spoken workd techniques of Ursula Rucker, the passionate and mature neo-soul approach of Jill Scott,hip-hop,urban soul and jazz landscapes that permeate Badu’s albums, mix everything and open your eyes: here is Fayth Hope music style! In 2012 she caught our attention and respect with the beyond amazing Out Of Obscurity Part.1 , a flawless oeuvre characterized by soulful-esque beats a la J.Dilla and balanced mix of spoken word, jazz and nu-soul vibrations. One year later she paid tribute to James Yancey with a sumptuous and sublime interpolation of Slum Village milestone Fall In Love, assisted behind the boards by North Carolina native producer D aka Dose.
Newark singer/songwriter/producer Latazha Jones aka Billzegypt popped up under scratchtheblock radar with a delicious piece called Wonder.
She provides good-feelings with a perfect song in terms of vocals and jazzy, soulful and boom-bap beats.
She’s currently working on a project called The Billy Blues , so if you appreciate this joint don’t hesitate to support and follow her.
AMEL LARRIEUX – INFINITE POSSIBILITIES
Back in 2000 to resume a neo-soul classic album called Infinite Possibilities performed by New York songstress/songwriter/keyboardist Amel Larrieux. After delighting the world alongside her partner in crime Bryce Wilson under the moniker Groove Theory , Ms.Larrieux kicked off her solo career in 2000 with her debut album Infinite Possibilities contributing to write the history of the neo-soul with majestic songs like Get Up and Sweet Misery. Well,Infinite Possibilities is another stand out gem from the project.Pure music, true lyrics leaded in a masterly manner by Amel . It’s spiritual,it’s classic neo-soul music.
Two years ago the independent record label HW&W based out of Los Angeles and Toronto, promoted an excellent collaboration between canadian artists Allie and Elaquent (check out his recent work Less Is More)
The result of the fruitful collabo is Maharajah,an artful mellow production handled by the super-talented Elaquent and enhanced with the luscious and meandering voice of Allie who shines bright over that jazzy and edgy beats.
Make sure you to grab Allie’s impressive last opus called Moonlust
