SCRATCHTHEBLOCK PRESENTS: JAZZ-HOP HOORAY

During these times we realized that jazz-hop music is not only a mere niche, it’s more than an unconventional genre because it’s able to grab the interest of a significant part of our audience that ask for more & more jazz-hop music!!!

With our 14th jazz-hop selection titled JAZZ-HOP HOORAY we tried to put together some dope artists that surely deserve your attention, so sit down, pick up ya headphones and press play…

Allow us to introduce ya a very interesting duo from Orange County (NY). We are talkin’ about The Doppelgangaz an underground hip-hop group composed by  EP and Matter Ov Fact. They carve out their own lane with a gritty production  and highly stylized rhymes that caught the attention of many prominent hip-hop magazines like XXL, The Source. In 2013 they dropped Lone Sharks (Deluxe) from which we selected the  tune titled Suppositiry. It’s a good chemistry of jazzy fuzzy sound and underground obscure beats!!!

Recently we recommended the wonderful project by hip-hop group Panacea, titled The Scenic Route . We wanna to spin the fucking good remix version of the single Walk In The Park. Here you are, Raw Poetic on the mic, K-Murdoc on da beat and the champion of  cuts & scratches Earl Davis aka Damu The Fudgemunk that cared this incredible supa-dynamic version, sampling a 1977 record by Ronnie Laws

Life’s A Bitch by Nas and AZ, produced by L.E.S and included on the classic hip-hop album Illmatic, represents unmistakably an inspiration for many beatmakers, that put their hands on da epic record to imprint their personal vibe!! New York DJ/producer DJ Mentos is on deck to resume Life’s A Bitch, enhancing the track with his personal touch. What we can say is simply, wowwww!!!!! He was able to revisite a classic in way so far from banality. Props to him!!!

Freakish but also respectable. These are two qualities that describe the eclecticism of the craft by Handsome Boy Modeling School, a duo composed by legendary hip-hop producer Prince Paul (Stetsasonic,MC Lyte,Queen Latifah,De La Soul,Big Daddy Kane) and San Francisco producer Dan The Automator (Kool Keith,DJ Shadow). In the 1999 they released  So…How’s Your Girl?, a tapestry  with loads of style and attitude that enlists so many artists  like Sadat X, Del the Funky Homosapien and many others. We selected the jazzy tune titled The Truth featuring Roisin Murphy from electronica/trip-hop group Moloko on vocals and MC’ing by J-Live. Yessa, it is a pleasure to listen to!!!

Back in da 1995 when the goat of the production, DJ Premier, delivered a special supa-powerful 12” titled 1,2 Pass It with D&D All-Stars. D&D is an ensamble of heavy-weight hip-hop emcees that includes: KRS-One, Fat Joe,Doug E. Fresh, Jeru The Damaja ,Mad Lion and  Smif-N-Wessun. Now put ya speakers out of ya windows and make some noiseeeeeeeeeee!!!!

Did ya ever listen to something about Constant Deviants? No? Well, it’s time to deliver some good flow from their production!!! Constant Deviants is a duo composed by DJ/producer DJ Cutt and the emcee M.I. that released in 1996 a majestic jazz-hop hit , Competition Catch Speed Knots that really hit us up!!!! They founded the indie label  SIX2SIX Records , in order to spread and promote serious hip-hop music

Detroit underground hip-hop group Clear Soul Forces appeared on Road To Hip-Hop  with their single Get No Better and we also recommended their great album titled Gold PP7s . Today we want to turn you on with a jazz-hop track by E-fave, Ilajide, J-Roc  and L.A.Z.  titled Solar Heat from their acclaimed album Gold PP7s.

On da jazz-hop selection titled Talking All That Jazz , we selected a track by California producer  Choice 37 included on his project Diligence. Now we focus our attention on the remix version of the single Conversate featuring Kero One and El Gambina, revisited by one of the most interesting producer of the moment Freddie Joachim. Mr.Joachim provides to add a mellow touch to this jazzy groove track

If you love the music delivered by Pro Era crew, maybe the name of Bishop Nehru will be a great discovering. The Rockland County (NY) young emcee  Markel Scott aka Bishop Nehru represents a real wunderkind earning his stripes with the release of the mixtape Nehruvia alongside producers DJ Premier,MF Doom,Madlib. Bishop is into hip-hop since he was a young teeneager, first of all enjoying himself making beats and then grabbing the mic. His intricate dope bars are influenced by real life experience and on his music you can appreciate hip-hop Golden Era flava with an impressive jazzy background, born listened to a lot of Roy Ayers, Incognito, Chet Baker, John Coltrane and stuff like that (despite his young age!!!). Currently Bishop is working side by side with the myth MF Doom for a new project titled Nehruvian DOOM . But now take a look to the spectacular smooth jazzy joint titled Elder Blossom produced by MF Doom.

For da last gem, we make a jump in the past!!! In 1997 Tame One and El Da Sensei aka Artifacts dropped That’s Them a massive album with the beats of some hip-hop luminaries like Da Beatminerz and Lord Finesse. Let us serve up a special treatment remix cooked up by hungarian beatmaker BluntOne that decided to resume the single Art Of Facts. We so so impressed by his penchant for jazzy solid beats!!!
