SCRATCHTHEBLOCK PRESENTS: FINER THINGS (R&B Flows)

Well well well, howdy r&b people!  The new r&b selection of this new year is Finer Things! We choose many wonderful tracks from the past and something from the present! We are planning a selection of rarities, something that probably you never heard, so stay tuned!

The first track of this selection is a classic by Mariah Carey: Fantasy. Back in the 95 when Puff Daddy recruited Ol’ Dirty Bastard to release the official Bad Boy Remix. The track used the sample of a 1981 tune by Tom Tom club,Genius Of Love.

In 2000 Todd Smith aka LL Cool J released G.O.A.T from which we choose the majestic production by DJ Scratch (Busta Rhymes, Q-Tip,Guru,50 Cent), entitled You And Me. The tune is a great duet with Queens r&b singer Kelly Price.

What kind of tune is suitable for a nice & cool party?  What do you think about After Party by Koffee Brown? Vee and Fonz dropped their debut album in 2001 after signed to Arista Records. Mars/Venus is the one and only album from the group!

Anotha 95 r&b masterpiece! Jodeci make ladies scream with their single called Get On Up from The Show The After Party The Hotel.

The  next track is the debut single by Faith Evans: You Used To Love Me, produced by  Puff Daddy. In 2013 r&b/neo-soul crooner AB Abernathy made a cover  for his album The Prologue Vol.II.

New York r&b singer, Emanny Salgado is already appeared on our selections: So Solid R&B and Sexy As Hell. Today we choose a catchy gem from his 2012 album called Songs About her, produced by New York producer Melody Q.

Mrs. “The Boy Is Mine” Brandy, dropped in 1994 her  acclaimed single I Wanna Be Down . In 1995 she teamed up with some femcee like Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, and Yo Yo   to release an official remix version .

U.K based producers Bon Garçon  , dropped in 1998 their promo single If You Need A Man, a cool midtempo between r&b flow and new jack swing. They worked on the sample of  Get Down Saturday Night by Oliver Cheatham.

Mrs. Carter,Beyonce Knowles released at the end of 2013 her little gift to her fans entitled Beyoncé. The project includes some real flawless masterpieces like Rocket that appeared on Stay Mellow 3 ,Superpower with Frank Ocean  and the funky mid-tempo beat of the wonderful Blow written and produced by Pharrell Williams and Timbaland (this track remind us Take Back The Night flava by Justin Timberlake)

LaKisha Johnson, Julia Garrison, Tiffany Phinazee, and Antonia Bryant better known with the moniker of Assorted Phlavors released in 1996 their great single Make Up Your Mind. We choose the remix version cared by Dave “Jam” Hall , the man behind the beats of Brand Nubians,Mary J Blige,Joe,Usher,Mariah Carey,Brownstone to name a few.

Bene,bene,bene eccoci all’appuntamento con la buona musica r&b! La prima selezione del 2014 e’ Finer Things, per la quale abbiamo selezionato alcuni pezzi del passato e alcuni piu recenti!

Iniziamo con un classico di Mariah Carey: Fantasy. Siamo nel 1995,quando il guru della Bad Boy Inc,  Puff Daddy decide di reclutare Ol’ Dirty Bastard per il lancio dell’official remix. Il sample usato e’ del 1981 ,Genius Of Love di Tom Tom club.

Proseguiamo con un’altro eccellente pezzo del 95! I Jodeci sono senza dubbio una scelta azzeccata per un “night rendezvous”. Gustatevi la loro Get On Up estratta dall’album The Show The After Party The Hotel.

Passiamo agli esordi di una stella ormai affermatissima nella scena black. Vi proponiamo il singolo che ha lanciato la carriera di Faith EvansYou Used To Love Me, prodotto da  Puff Daddy. Nel 2013 l’artista r&b/neo-soul ,AB Abernathy ha provveduto a rispolverare il singolo, includendo una cover nel suo album The Prologue Vol.II.

E’ stata un’inaspettata e piacevolissima sorpresa la release dell’omonimo album di Mrs. Carter, Beyonce Knowles pubblicata alla fine del 2013. Il progetto include numerosi pezzi da 5 stelle come Rocket inclusa in Stay Mellow 3 ,Superpower con Frank Ocean  e la funky mid-tempo Blow scritta e prodotta da Pharrell Williams e Timbaland (il quale ci ripropone le sonorita’ di Take Back The Night di Justin Timberlake).
