SCRATCHTHEBLOCK PRESENTS: ELEVATE YOUR SOUL (FOOD 4 YA SOUL)

Howdy scratchers we are on air with some special food for your soul.

Elevate Your Soul is our brand new nu-soul selection that consists of 10 extra-soulful gems that deserve your attention.

Let’s start the experience people!!!

Last year we recommended one of most interesting neo-soul album of the last 10 years: The Revelation Is Now Televised by New Jersey singer/songwriter V aka Valvin Roane. He appeared also on the selection For The Sake Of Neo-Soul and today we wanna share with you a track included on Valvin’s album titled V Formation released in 2013. The gem is called We Must Believe and it’s a lil silky masterpiece that “strike” your soul. This year the multifaceted talent dropped a new EP entitled Vibration 528 available on iTunes.

In 2012 neo-soul songstress Natalie “The Floacist” Stewart released Floetry Rebirth. After the unexpected Floetry split back in 2005 the two talented singers started a solo career. As a matter of fact on our point of view on the one hand, Marsha Ambrosius (great great voice!!) opted for a lil bit mainstream production as you can see with her last effort Friends & Lovers EP ,on the other hand Natalie dedicated herself on a underground and jazzy neo-soul production that convince us! So, less words n mo’ music for ya soul scratchers,  this is the super-smooth revisitation of the Floetry classic track, Say Yes performed by The Floacist for the 10th anniversary of the certified gold single.

The next track is a fucking must have masterpiece performed by LA-by-way-of-Copenhagen electro-soul duo Quadron (composed by producer Robin Hannibal and songstress Coco O).  After their compelling debut self-titled album dropped in 2009, they released in 2013 their sophomore album Avalanche that include the magic collaboration with Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar for the track called Better Off. Maybe this musical alchemy would seem such a strange thing but honestly we guarantee that it sounds so so wonderful..

The next artist is a newbie on scratchtheblock.com but he represents a buzz-worthy artist sponsored by  Soulection label!!!We are talking about Pheo an emcee from Moreno Valley, California that dropped in 2012 the project called They Soulection working also with super talented producer Afta-1 on da beats. He grabbed our attention with one track titled Real Old Cigar a smooth like butter tune produced by Auckland beatmaker Christoph El Truento.

George Evelyn better know as Nightmares On Wax is a DJ/Producer from  UK, with a personal style that contemplate hip hop beats and chillwave relaxing sounds. In 2006 he released In A Space Outta Sound that includes the track Soul Purpose. We chose the rapped edition with KANiBULZ.

Ex member of new jack swing/r&b group Tony Toni Tone, Dwayne Wiggins is a record artist/composer/songwriter and he appears for the first time on scratchtheblock.com. D’Wayne wrote and produced for the like of Too $hort,Destiny’s Child,Kelly Price,Messy Marv and the list goes on and on.  In 2000 he released his debut solo album titled Eyes Never Lie from which we chose the gem What’s Really Going On (Strange Fruit)

We go on with anotha new entry on “the block” !!! Indonesian neo-soul/jazz songstress Dira J. Sugandi really impressed us with her album Something About the Girl ( that includes a great collabo with UK avant-garde singer Omar Lye-Fook) almost entirely produced by two members from acid jazz group Incognito, Matt Cooper and Jean-Paul Maunick. Check out the soulful ballad called Daydream….

The next track is a neo-soul classic performed by one of nu-soul queen in da game: Angie Stone. In 2001 she released her sophomore album titled Mahogany Soul with the collaboration of many guru’s from the black music scene like: Raphael Saadiq, Ali Shaheed Muhammad,Swizz Beatz,Carvin Haggins and also Alicia Keys,Calvin Richardson,Musiq. We recommend the track called Wish I Didn’t Miss You produced by Swizz Beatz sampling a classic from the early 70s by O’Jays called Back Stabbers

Last month we recommended the soulful project by Bristol producer Andy Compton: Compton’s Soul. Today we wanna give ya anotha tasteful appetizer from this album , so enjoy yourself with Believing featuring the arresting voice of canadian singer/songwriter Jaidene Veda . This is class people!!!! If you are interested to Andy Compton’s production maybe you will appreciate also his Shades Of Green featuring Ladybird under the moniker L.A.M.P.

The last gem is Same Dream Again performed by 74 Miles Away with the collaboration of Miles Bonny. Who is/are 74 Miles Away? It’s an experimental project born by the creative approach of Brussels duo producers Monkey Robot and belgian composer and pianist Pierre Anckaert. In 2011 they released the project 74 Miles Away under the Melting Pot Music label.
