SCRATCHTHEBLOCK PRESENTS: DIGGING IN THE CRATES (Underground Rarities)

Take an idea! Take an intimate musical passion! Take a big big motivation of a web-site staff that just wanna spread black music all around the world for the sake of hip hop.. Mix up these main ingredients and the result is DIGGING IN THE CRATES series.

I’m Alex “Tha Pen” Collazzo, scratchtheblock.com CEO and editor in chief and today i wanna celebrate my unconditional love for underground hip hop beats, rhymes and culture! This love is changhing my life and i put all my soul to the scratchtheblock project , not for fame, not for success but only for pure love!

So i’m talking to all 800 people that follow us from China to Italy, from US to France. People stand up and toast together to Hip Hop….

This is Digging In The Crates Vol. 1, enjoy yourself folks!!!!

Baatin, J Dilla, Elzhi makes my soul vibrate. When i’m looking for some touching good flow, i used to listen to a particular gem by Slum Village: 2U4U , a masterpiece from Fantastic 2.

Ok, back in the summer 95, when Skee-Lo dropped his one-shot classic called I Wish, tearing up clubs, streets and radio! The gem is included on the album entitled I Wish and produced by himself using the sample of a 1981 track by Bernard Wright. The head-nodding track is a really fucking MUST HAVE.

On the selection called Check The Rhymes we blew the dust off a record by Poor Righteous Teachers from their 1996 album The New World Order. I’d like to recommend you anotha sick track by P.R.T from the same album: Dreadful Day ,produced by Foxy Brown cousin, Clark Kent ( Junior Mafia,Das EFX, Jay-Z,Queen Latifah,Notorius BIG) and featuring Junior Reid.

In 1997 Omar Credle aka O.C teamed up with Funkmaster Flex protegé New York r&b singer Yvette Michele, to release Far From Yours produced by Bronx heavy-weight Buckwild and included on his sophomore album Jewelz , a project that see the collabo of many masterful beatmakers: Primo,Da Beatminerz and Lord Finesse.

The street poet, Nas is here with his Memory Lane from hip hop classic album Illmatic. Anotha DJ Premier illest production.

Are ya ready to make some noise??? I choose anotha gem with a superlative rhythm. Do you remember Dom Perignon? Yessirr. In 1995 Little Shawn dropped the underground uptempo party-track Dom Perignon, using the sample of Too Hot by Kool & The Gang.

Native Tongue Posse members Afrika Baby Bam,Mike G and DJ Sammy B better known as Jungle Brothers play their single called Brain from 1997 album entitled Raw Deluxe and produced by The Roots.

In 2010 Slum Village dropped another proof of their majestic class, the album J-88 from which we choose The Look Of Love (one of the best track of ever).

We posted something about EPMD (an underground hip hop group formed by emcee/producer Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith), on our selection called On Deck. Do u wanna listen to another slick tune by them? In 1997 they released Back In Business that includes also a real bomb: Richter Scale.

Buckshot Shorty,DJ Evil Dee (from production crew Da Beatminerz) and Kaseem Reid known as Black Moon are mentioned on It’s Bumpin and Old School vs New School. The Brooklyn underground hip hop group , today is here to play a rare-extra-masterpiece from their 1993 debut album Enta Da Stage: Who Got The Props! For this underground jazzy gem they used the sample of Tidal Wave by Ronnie Laws.

MUST HAVE!

Il sample usato e’ Too Hot dei Kool & The Gang.

Old School vs New School. Il gruppo underground , pubblica agli inizi degli anni 90 l’album di debutto, Enta Da Stage, che include uno dei singoli piu’ autorevoli della crew di Brooklyn: Who Got The Props!  Il sample e’ Tidal Wave di Ronnie Laws
