The connection between jazz and hip-hop is the topic of our brand new selection titled Check My Steez. We selected what we consider dope and buzzworthy so open your mind to these ten pretty good stuff.

THE WORLD IS KONS VS UKEY VS NAS

Boston DJ/producer Kon dugs in the crates blowing the dust off Nas‘ s critically-acclaimed first album Illmatic and re-arranging the hip-hop milestone The World Is Yours produced by Pete Rock.  The result is an impressive  jazz-hop remix enhanced with the Yuki “U-key” Kanesaka‘s piano. Enjoy yourself with this classy and thoughtful revisitation.

MYK & SHIROSKY – PICASSO

On da jazz-hop selections Speaking In Keys and A Touch Of Jazzy we selected something interesting from the collaborative project called Adaptation by rapper MYK and South Korea producer Shirosky. Today we continue to highlight Shirosky’s beats with the track titled Picasso featuring rapper Manifest

Boston emcee Jeffrey Haynes aka Mr.Lif moves his first steps here on scratchtheblock.com with a fantastic joint titled Breathe included on his album I Heard It Today. For this compelling tune Mr.Lif teamed up with veteran hip-hop femcee Bahamadia and we bet you will be totally fascinated by the perfect blend of jazz and massive underground hip-hop beats.

KID TSUNAMI FEAT. SEAN PRICE AND CHUCK CHILLA – BANG EXCLUSIVE (DOWNTOWN REMIX)

Recently we recommended the majestic hip-hop album by Bjorn Berlinger aka Kid Tsu titled The Chase. The line up included several guest stars like Brooklyn rapper Sean Price of Boot Camp Click that spits hot verses  for the head-nodding track titled Bang Exclusive alongside Los Angeles bass and guitar player Chuck Chilla. We selected the ultra-sick treatment remix handled by Perth resident beatmaker Oath (taste the sound of his project A Prelude To A Sunset )

GODFATHER DON – STUCK OFF THE REALNESS

New York rapper/producer Godfather Don earned a comfortable spot on our hip-hop record collection thanks his skilful beats and rhymes. On jazz-hop selection Hustle Bustle , he inflemed the audience with the superb Do I Come Off and today we continue to pay homage to this hip-hop musicianship with the cool joint titled Stuck Off The Realness.

GHETTO CONCEPT – E-Z ON THA MOTION (PRODUCED BY DA GRASSROOTS)

We continue to spread high quality jazz-hop tracks!!! This time we make your speakers louder with something ultra-dope straight from Canada!!! Toronto hip-hop group Ghetto Concept , composed by Kwajo Cinqo and Dolo dropped in 1994 their second major single titled E-Z On Tha Motion (check out the visual )produced by Da Grassroots (formed by Nicholas Murray, Roger Perryman, Swiff). Well, tight beatz, tight lyrical hooks, and tight production that will enrich your record collection.

CLEVER JEFF – JAZZ HOP SOUL

Back in da 1994 when Oakland rapper/producer Clever Jeff released his debut album titled Jazz Hop Soul . The project represents a great homage to the world of jazz-hop and we think you will appreciate Clever Jeff’s opus. For this selection we selected the smooth jazzy hip-hop track titled Jazz Hop Soul. Don’t be mad , sit down and vibe with Jeff’s flawless rendtion.

CELLA DWELLAS – GOOD DWELLAS (PRODUCED BY NICK WIZ)

Last night chilling with peeps we stumbled upon a club that spun a 1994 record by  Flatbush hip-hop underground group Cella Dwellas. Gotdamn it was a nostalgic trip into old school hip-hop music and while the DJ spun a track from Cella Dwella debut album titled Realms’n Reality we thought to include Cella Dwellas on our selection… So here we are , excited to resume a massive jazz-hop piece titled Good Dwellas produced by hip-hop hitmaker Nicholas C. Loizides aka Nick Wiz  who took advantage of a sample of Soul/Funk singer/musician Les McCann.

BRAND NUBIAN FEAT. STARR – HOLD ON (SALAAM REMI REMIX)

On The Remix Session Vol. 5 , Smokin Session, The Remix Session Vol.3, It’s Bumpin , Me And My Adidas ,Re-Works and Remixes we delivered supa-dupa joints performed by veteran hip-hop crew Brand Nubian. Today we spin a classic from their third album Everything Is Everything titled Hold On featuring Starr. Check out the remix version handled by hip-hop mogul Salaam Remi.

BLACK JOSH – PAUL SCHOLES (PRODUCED BY MORQ)

South Manchester hip-hop story teller Black Josh blow our mind with his incredible and shimmering performance for the must have track titled Paul Scholes over the compelling production handled by Morq. You can peep out the visual at Blah Records Channel . Black Josh appeared on hip-hop selection Microphone Masters
