We are on deck to give ya ten neo-soul tracks that will blow ya mind!!

Do you remember the extra-seductive gem ,Playing Your Game, Baby, performed by the legend Barry White in the 1977? Well, for the first dish we chose a sumptuous neo-soul track by Detroit born and raised multi-instrumentalist/producer (one of our fav) ZO!, that covered the Barry’s masterpiece! The track titled Playing Your Game is included on ZO! epic EP called Just Visiting Three.  The project bore by ZO! idea to pay tribute to some records from the past, from  Black Cow by Steely Dan to Let It Go by The Pages, recruiting great neo-soul voices like Sy Smith,Eric Roberson,Nicholas Ryan Gant among others. Now sit down and enjoy yourself with Anthony David on da mic!

The next track is a supa-soulful and touching lil masterpiece by New York collective known as The Rooks. If you are a regular scratchthelbock taster maybe their album titled Something You Can Take will be familiar. For this occasion we want to delight your palate with their single titled Rita.

Are ya ready for a rare must have gem for your collection? We are talking about Todd “Speech” Thomas former artist from grammy award winner underground hip hop group, Arrested Development (included on our selections We Select,We Certify and Digging In The Crates Vol. 2 ). In 1996 Speech launched his solo career with a self-titled album from which we chose the single titled Like Marvin Gaye Said’ (What’s Going On).

Talking about neo-soul music is almost impossible don’t mention one of the queen of modern soul scene: Jill Scott. She represents unmistakably the essence of this beautiful genre, embodying class,seduction,groove. In 2004 Steve McKeever’s jazz and soul indie label Hidden Beach released Jilly sophomore album titled Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2. To give ya a proof of her incredible talent and her impressive roof-raising  voice we selected Bedda At Home masterfully produced by Karma Productions.

In 2004 a group of artists set down in the studio reinventing Isley Brothers classics , with a concept album made of intriguing remixes titled Taken To The Next Phase: Reconstructions. So loyal Isley Brothers fans can appreciate Questlove,Raphael Saadiq,Will.I.Am reworks,paying homage to one of the most prolific R&B/soul group from the past. What’s your impression of Mos Def version of the single Groove With You?

Time to introduce an intresting voice on Grenique is a r&b/neo-soul singer/songwriter with a musical background influenced by many jazz and neo-soul icons like Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan,Chaka Khan. She born in Maryland but she launched her career when she moved to New York and gained the attention of Motown Records guru Kedar Massenberg.In 1999 she released her debut album titled Black Butterfly from which we chose Love Within, a track imbued of class and jazzy groove.

We are ready to show ya anotha smooth track! This time we are in front of a Chicago native r&b/soul singer named Gloria Ry’ann. She collaborated with many artists as background vocalist : Leela James,Jenifer Hudson, Carl Thomas and in 2011 she released her EP titled Just Glow from which you can appreciate her breathtaking and warm voice performing a Minnie Riperton cover: Inside My Love.

The next artist is the proof the if you got on your own hands talent,perseverance maybe you can reach and knock to the heaven doors also if you are working on Starbucks as barista. George Tandy Jr is a r&b/neo-soul singer that appeared on Billboard chart straight out from Starbuck with a single titled March. Well, if are curious and you want to taste his music, we recommend ya the magic touch of the single titled Bonfire Music.

Anotha neo-soul queen is here! Erykah Badu is one of  the most respected and acclaimed artists and as great great fans of her music we paid a tribute in order to celebrate her class with a dope selection titled Erykah Badu Remixes . She also appeared on several selections , here on da block and today , for this selection, we selected an exclusive  buttery groove masterpiece titled Today (The Earth Song)

Seattle masterful DJ dj100proof closes this selection with a special delivery for the pleasure of all good music taster out there. Probably many of you just know his flawless and original blends dropped with the Backyard BBQ mixtape series or someone of you have seen him during a set alongiside prominent artists like: DJ Quik,DJ Shadow,Digable Planets,DJ Maceo and many others.
