Unfortunately we don’t have enough information about up-n-coming r&b singer Jordo but we can guarantee an uplifting sonic experience giving you the opportunity to listen to his superb and smooth r&b jam called Tell Me Something.
The joint is finely handled by New York based producer Kellen Nguyen, whose production evokes dark, smoky and seductive ovo-esque landscapes.
SPZRKT & SANGO – HIPSTER GIRL
We live at the time where there is a thin line between r&b music, pop and electronic music! Sometimes we listen to a kinda of sound where pop and electronic overshadow the essence of r&b (its distinctive urban rhythm!!). However,we have to admit the wide and intricate worldwide web offers us the opportunity to discover interesting indipendent labels , which are making an amazing job spreading fresh and innovative r&b sounds. Labels such as Brainfeeder,Tru Thoughts,Record Breakin,Bastard Jazz,First Word Records, HW&W,Stones Throw,Melody Soul and Soulection to name a few have proved to be an important source of quality music! Soulection representative young and skilful producer Sango is a clever, creative exponent of the new wave of r&b music. The Seattle beat-wizard is a sort of alchimist and his sure touch in cooking and blending hip-hop beats with electronic soulful and mellow rhythm make him one of the most interesting producer of the current urban scene (make sure you to purchase his last effort titled Tomorrow, a superb collabo with fellow citizen Dave B) ! Last year Sango released the majestic collaborative project alongside SPZRKT entitled Hours Spents Loving You (do yourself a favor and grab it now!). Damn…let yourself be seduced by the sensuous downtempo landscapes! Frankly it’s not easy to describe how we feel everytime we listen to Hours Spents Loving You EP but we can assure you, SPZRKT laidback vocals induces incredible good feelings. The Texas native, now known as Xavier Omar , dropped recently one of the most interesting project of the year, The Everlasting Wave packed with brilliant productions by Thelonious Martin,Hit Boy,J-Louis ,Brasstracks,Peter Cottontale,Iamnobodi among others. Now press play and taste the sublime Hipster Girl
In February, we introduced to you the music by ADMB with a luscious piece called Take It Back. Well, recently the British beatmaker teamed up with Seneca B aka Celin Carlo Gonzalez, a Boston producer with the same penchant for soulful hip-hop beats! The fruitful partnership between Seneca B and ADMB gave us the project called Bloom , described by ADMB as
a mix of both our passion for jazzy hip hop beats as well as traditional soul music.
The mellow work houses some artists we already know such as Brisbane singer Street Rat and Colorado multi-talented artist Sophie Meiers, who delights us performing the song called Turn Off All The Light.
The next track is a collaborative effort between U.K based Knox Brown and Los Angeles r&b star Gallant. Knox Brown is a Jamaican-born, Birmingham-raised triple threat with a strong reputation at international level thanks his incredible prowess as producer and songwriter. Mr. Brown had the pleasure to work with renowned artists such as Beyonce,Mary J Blige,Emeli Sande and local artists like Tinie Tempah. In August Knox Brown released his debut project called Searching, earning positive reviews from influential sites like Vibe,The Source and Pigeons And Plans among others, thanks also the line-up of collaborators: Anderson.Paak and BJ The Chicago Kid. Well , Knox resumed his piece called Harry’s Code , revamping the song with the help of stellar artist Gallant and the result is a slow-burner duet included on Bridget Jones’s Baby Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. The song is called Reignite and you can vibe with us listening to this hot slow jam.
Australian producer Regan Mathews better known by the moniker Ta-Ku is a brilliant producer with a “gentle approach”. Ta-Ku’s CV includes collaborations with Miles Bonny,Suff Daddy,Raashan Ahmad,Hawk House,GoldLink,JMSN,Anderson.Paak and his installments Songs To Break Up To and Songs To Make Up To were well-received by the critics! Well , in February Sydney based indipendent label Future Classic released a compilation titled One In A Million from which we selected the song called American Girl. The goosebump-cut is an original rendition of Estelle’s American Boy , reinterpreted by Ta-Ku and Wafia Al-Rikabi. Yeah,we know what you’re thinking…. Ta-Ku is not only an astonishing producer but he also got great potential as singer , providing beautiful notes that makes skin shudder over the recalibrated hushed rhythm. The collaborative piece unveils an incredible chemistry between Ta-Ku and the Brisbane based songstress , so they decided to put out a project called (m)Edian .
With two Eps under their belt (Hoodie and Jacket) , Melbourne based duo Fortunes are almost ready to spread their wings and fly high! The group consists of lead vocalist Conor McCabe and producer Barnaby Matthews and recently they got a record deal with Australian label Future Classic. We spotlighted Fortunes cut called Justin Bieber at the end of the last year, starting to follow them, waiting for their forthcoming project scheduled for the next year. In the meantime you can dive with us into the intimate sound of their recent offering entitled 501’s.
Two years ago,Bellevue, Washington musician/singer Malia Cunningham put a spell on us with her first self-titled project recorded with the collaboration of The Internet. The beautiful and gifted curly-haired girl leapt back, this year , with a brand new work entitled Letting Go , a five-pieces opus that oozes vocal intensity and simple but feel-good melodies. Maaan…you should shut out the rest of the world and relax your mind, contemplating this beautiful EP filled with precious songs like Grey and the beyond amazing Not 2 Self.
Nine days ago we recommended a beautiful piece performed by french singer J.McFysian entitled Looking masterfully remixed by french hip-hop beatmaker A Cat Called Fritz . Today we wanna highlight the original version, finely curated by british mastermind Simon S (founder of indipendent label Futuristica Music ) and mastered by renowned producer and sought after remixer Atjazz. Well, the song includes elements of jazz,hip-hop,trip-hop,downtempo electronic sounds all mixed in to a stew of great relaxing and seductive music !
After hitting the entire world with his magnum opus Channel Orange , Long Beach r&b God , Frank Ocean dropped this year his sophomore studio album called Blond (distributed by Ocean’s label Boys Don’t Cry) and ….we have to say he demonstrated a certain courage! Why? Well..Blond is anything but ordinary or conventional in terms of production! Of course, far be it from us to discredit the entire body of work, which has turned out to be one of the best album of the year. Blond is anotha rnb game-changer Ocean-branded and what makes it a shining rarity is the contrast between the minimalism of the sound and intimacy of the lyrics. For this selection we chose a brilliant treatment remix of Godspeed. The revisitation is handled by dvsn , the extraordinary musical project brainchild of Toronto hitmaker Paul “Nineteen85” Jefferies (man behind platinum singles such as Hotline Blings,Hold On We’re Going Home ). In March dvsn dropped the debut album entitled Sept. 5th via Ovo Sound label
We aren’t the only ones to be fascinated by Ari boundless potential, infact in December, hip-hop mogul J.Cole signed the talented singer to his label Dreamville (subsidiary label from Interscope Records) and recently she launched the project entitled Pho almost entirely produced by DJ Grumble, the man behind the hit called Backseat featuring Dreamville rapper Cozz. We selected for your pleasure the soulful song called La La La produced by Dave James , which appeared on Ari Lennox EP Ariography
