LALAH HATHAWAY FEAT. SNOOP DOGG AND ROBERT GLASPER – GHETTO BOY (PRODUCED BY TERRACE MARTIN)
Modern Soul diva Lalah Hathaway surprises us with a new version of her recent piece Little Ghetto Boy.
In 2014 Lalah won the grammy for Best R&B Performance with the sublime Something featuring jazz ensemble Snarky Puppy included on their great album Family Dinner and last year she triumphed again with the beyond amazing rearrangement of Stevie Wonder Jesus Children finely handled by Robert Glasper Experiment and included on the masterpiece Black Radio 2
Yessir, the Chi-Town songstress earned a grammy nomination for Best Traditional R&B Performance 2016 thanks a sumptuous rendition of the milestone Little Ghetto Boy released in 1972 by her father and soul icon Donny Hathaway.
The song is included on Lalah’s last effort entitled Live , a project that sounds refined and touching unveiling every single ounce that characterizes Ms.Hathaway ‘s artistry .
To record the new version, called Ghetto Boy, Lalah Hathaway recruits some genius that definitely revamp the joint adding their own remarkable style.
Just like three years ago with the masterpiece 3Chord Fold by Terrace Martin, we can again appreciate four super talented acts working side by side: Snoop Doog,Robert Glasper,Lalah Hatahway and Terrace Martin.
Terrace Martin (one of our fav producer) creates a stunning backdrop for the serious bars dropped by Uncle Snoop (damn, so impressive!!) , masterfully assisted on piano by the gifted Robert Glasper (who guarantees special vibrations).
The result is a thouthful blend of hip-hop,jazz,r&b and soul that sounds simply amazing.
Terrace Martin got a new project on the way called Velevet Portrait, so make sure you to stay tuned !
Mad props to each artist involved on the Lalah gem and big big big respect to Ms.Hathaway for enriching our soul with an immeasurable perspective that breaks the boundaries of musical conventions.
