KENDRICK LAMAR FEAT. ANNA WISE,THUNDERCAT AND BILAL – THESE WALLS (PRODUCED BY TERRACE MARTIN AND LARRANCE DOPSON)
Today is the day of Kendrick Lamar!
K-Dot releases his sophomore album titled To Pimp A Butterfly and it will be a surprise in terms of sonorities for everyone who consider Kendrick Lamar as a simple rapper.
As Kanye West with 808s & Heartbreak , the Compton artist embarks on a new musical journey exploring new sonorities and turning the urban beats down to deliver something new.
We dove into To Pimp A Butterfly with the main aim to avoid fawning praises and honestly we have to say Mr.Lamar had the audacity to work on something totally different compared to his previous works, trying to build a finest opus with a new approach.
In order to show to the world this brave experimental album , the TDE rapper recruits a line up of mastermind producers: Terrace Martin,Taz Arnold of Sa-Ra Creative Partners,Brainfeeder futuristic bassist, singer, producer Thundercat,Lovedragon, grammy nominated Sounwave,Flying Lotus.
Generally the album sounds cool, fresh, captivating although there are some tracks that didn’t convince us.
One of the joint that really impresses us is These Walls.
It’s a blast of funk with exciting tints of hip-hop and soulful vibes enhanced with the sultry voice and class of Anna Wise of SonnyMoon, the neo-soul touch of Bilal Oliver and the most clever, futuristic and all-around coolest riffs of Thundercat.
To give shape and substance to the track Kendrick enlists Los Angeles versatile and multi-talented producer Terrace Martin and Larrance Dopson (member of the collective 1500 or Nothin and genius behind some dope works for Jay-Z,The Game,Snoop Dogg,Saigon,Murs)
